Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 17, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how SmartScanAi (hereafter, "we", "our" or "us"), the developer and operator of the "QR Reader With AI Analysis" mobile application (the "App") and the Smart Scan AI website (the "Site"), manages information from users (hereafter, "you", "your").

1. Information we collect

We do not ask for your name, email or any account details. On the Site, all scanning and code generation happens locally in your browser, and your scan history is stored in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB) on your device only.

The App does collect some information through the services listed below:

  • Usage analytics: we use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the App is used. It collects app interaction events (for example which screens are opened and which features are used), app version, device model, operating system version, language, approximate location at country or city level, and an app instance ID and, where allowed, the device advertising ID. We use this only to fix problems and improve the App. We do not sell it.
  • Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics collects crash logs, device state and an installation ID when the App crashes.
  • AI analysis: when you ask for an AI analysis of a scan, the scanned content is sent through our server to OpenAI to produce the answer. The App uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication, a random ID not linked to your identity, so our server can limit usage and prevent abuse.
  • Advertising: Google AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to show and measure ads.

2. How Google Analytics collects and processes data

Google Analytics for Firebase is provided by Google. The SDK in the App records events and sends them to Google's servers, where they are processed to produce aggregated usage reports for us. Google processes this data under its own terms; you can read how at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in the Google Privacy Policy.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the App asks for your consent when it starts. Your choices there control whether data may be used for analytics and advertising purposes, and you can change them later from the App. You can also reset your advertising ID or opt out of ad personalization in your device settings.

3. Third-party services

The App uses these third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:

  • Google Play Services
  • Google AdMob
  • Firebase Analytics
  • Firebase Crashlytics
  • Firebase Authentication (anonymous) and App Check
  • Firebase Remote Config
  • ZXing (Barcode scanning)
  • OpenAI GPT API

4. External links

We may display links to third party websites. We cannot control or be held responsible for the privacy practices of third parties. If you click a third-party advertisement or link, please understand that you are leaving the App or Site, and any personal data you provide is not covered by this Policy.

5. Children's privacy

Our App and Site do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

6. Security

While no online service is 100% secure, we work to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective when they are posted on this page.

8. Contact us

If you have any questions or suggestions about our Privacy Policy, use our contact page or write to smartscanai@yahoo.com.
